AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS

Fred B. Buck, a partner in our Philadelphia office, was named Chair of the Federal Civil Procedure Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers at the conclusion of the College’s Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 29, 2018.

The Federal Civil Procedure Committee monitors the operation of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and other federal procedures generally, determines the adequacy of the operation of the rules and procedures in federal civil cases, evaluates proposed changes to the federal rules, and makes recommendations in these matters to the Federal Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure and others.  Fred was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2011. Fellowship in the College is extended only by invitation to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of trial advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.

Fred is Chair of the Firm’s Professional Liability and Casualty Sections. He has been an active litigator and trial lawyer for over 35 years. He earned an A.B., cum laude, from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Temple University School of Law. He has represented clients in high exposure cases in many diverse areas of the law, including general negligence, civil rights, product liability, professional liability, commercial motor vehicle, and construction site accidents. He has tried many jury and nonjury cases in the Courts of Common Pleas of Philadelphia, Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike and York Counties as well as in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania. He has argued appeals in the Pennsylvania Appellate Courts and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Fred was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2010 and currently holds the rank of Advocate. He is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.

Rawle & Henderson LLP is pleased to announce that Bryan J. Ferrara has been named Of Counsel to the Firm in our New York City office.  Bryan concentrates his law practice in the areas of insurance coverage, medical professional liability, and casualty and premises liability.

Bryan earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 2008 and his B.A. in Psychology from SUNY College at Old Westbury in 2004.  He is admitted to practice in New York, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SEMINAR

Zachary M. Rubinich was a panelist at the seminar “Navigating LHWCA and State Workers’ Comp Claims” in September in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The seminar was presented by the Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee and Workers’ Compensation Committee of the ABA Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section.

The program consisted of two one-hour panels. The first panel addressed differences in practice between handling Longshore and Harborworkers’ Compensation Act/Defense Base Act claims, and state workers’ compensation claims.  The second panel discussed recent developments in the law and significant case updates in LHWCA/DBA and state workers’ compensation practice.

Zach Rubinich is a partner in our Philadelphia office. He focuses his practice on the defense of insurance carriers, self-insured entities and third-party administrators against workers’ compensation claims in Pennsylvania. Based on his extensive experience, the Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Law Section has certified him as Specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law. Zach has handled all aspects of litigation before workers’ compensation judges, the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, the Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.  He routinely counsels employers, insurance carriers and third party administrators on claims management, workplace safety, return-to-work programs, employment practices and risk management. Zach has been appointed the Chair of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice (TIPS) Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Law Committee for 2018-2019. He served as Vice-Chair of the ABA TIPS Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Law Committee for 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.  In addition, Zach has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the 2017-2018 American Bar Association Standing Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. Zach has been rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell for the seventh consecutive year for 2019. He has been selected as a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2010 to 2014.

DRI PERSONAL INJURY PRACTICUM

Lisa L. Prince will participate on the faculty for the annual Dispute Resolution Institute (DRI) Personal Injury Practicum at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on November 8, 2018. The practicum is designed for plaintiff and defense personal injury attorneys and offered practical tips and insight.

Lisa will speak in the session “Social Media & Discovery: The Defense Perspective.” The Courts are now confronted with determining the extent to which plaintiffs must produce their social media postings. This session will examine issues related to collection of plaintiffs’ social media information as evidence in lawsuits, including admissibility of “public” versus “private” postings, admissibility of deleted postings, guidelines on accessing an individual’s social media postings, and authentication of social media accounts.

Lisa L. Prince is Of Counsel to the Firm in the Philadelphia office of Rawle & Henderson LLP.  She concentrates her practice in the areas of premises liability, product liability, commercial motor vehicle and construction law matters. Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in 1994 and Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1997. She is admitted to practice in the state courts of Pennsylvania as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In addition to her practice, she volunteers on behalf of the Philadelphia Support Center for Child Advocates.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Rawle & Henderson LLP participated in the Global Citizen annual School Supply Drive in August 2018 to benefit students in Philadelphia public schools. Global Citizen partnered with the Philadelphia Media Network (Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News & Philly.com), 900AM-WURD, the African American Museum in Philadelphia, High Point Café and iHeart Media for this year’s drive to benefit students in underserved Philadelphia public schools. ALLEGHENY COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

David R. Chludzinski has been re-elected to serve a second three-year term from 2018 to 2021 on the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section Council. He also served on the Council from 2015 to 2018. David is Of Counsel to the Firm in our Pittsburgh office. He concentrates his practice on the defense of commercial motor vehicle companies and their insurers.

David earned his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University. While attending law school, he was a Comments Editor on the International Law Review and he received the C.A.L.I. Award for advanced pre-trial advocacy. He earned his B.A., cum laude, from Boston College.

David is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association and the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association. David has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2012 to 2018.

Edward J. Chiodo has joined Rawle & Henderson LLP as Of Counsel to the Firm. Edward works in the West Virginia and Pittsburgh offices. He concentrates his law practice on environmental, mass and toxic torts, professional liability, medical professional liability, insurance coverage and workers’ compensation.

Edward earned his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 1988 and his B.A. from Duquesne University in 1985. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and also the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania and the Southern District of West Virginia. He is a member of the Bar Associations of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Allegheny County. He has been on the Board of Directors of Mothers Hope Foundation since 2000.

Sarah J. Simkin has joined our Pittsburgh office as an associate. She focuses her practice in civil litigation, insurance defense, and commercial motor vehicle matters.

Sarah earned her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 2015 with a concentration in Civil Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. During law school she interned for the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and the Pittsburgh office of the United States Attorney’s Office, and upon graduation she served as a Legal Fellow in the chambers of the Honorable Nora Barry Fischer (U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania). She earned her B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012.

Sarah is active in the Allegheny County Bar Association and The Honorable Amy Reynolds Hay American Inn of Court. She serves as a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and holds a 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.

Sarah is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.  Prior to joining Rawle & Henderson LLP, she was an associate at a national insurance defense firm.

Samuel A. Garson has joined our New Jersey office as an associate.  He focuses his law practice on environmental, mass and toxic tort litigation.

Sam earned his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2017. He was a Beasley Scholarship Recipient. While attending Temple Law, he served as a legal intern for the City of Philadelphia Law Department’s Civil Rights Unit and as a law clerk with a Philadelphia personal injury law firm. He earned his B.A. in English, magna cum laude, in 2013 from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He was on the Dean’s list every semester and was a member of the Men’s Rugby Club.

Sam is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and also in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Rawle & Henderson LLP, he was an associate with a Philadelphia workers’ compensation, personal injury and insurance claims law firm.
