NY State Dental Journal to publish article by William Spiegel and Marc Leffler in January 2020

The New York State Dental Association has accepted an article co-authored by William S. Spiegel and Marc R. Leffler for inclusion in its January 2020 Journal. The article is titled “The Ethical and Legal Pitfalls Associated with Dental Practice Beyond Ability Levels.” The January 2020 issue of the Journal is devoted to legal and ethical topics relating to dentistry.

William S. Spiegel and Marc R. Leffler were the keynote speakers at the MedPro Dental National Brokers Meeting held October 17, 2019 in New York City. The presentation included an analysis of recent trends in jury verdicts and case valuation, in addition to portions of a mock trial.

William S. Spiegel and Marc R. Leffler lectured to the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine on “Risk Management and Dentistry” on October 14, 2019. They discussed various issues encountered in their litigation practice, including record keeping, informed consent, professional disciplinary hearings before state Dental Boards, standards of care in dentistry and other related topics.

New York: Oral Surgery Malpractice—Summary Judgment, Queens County


Plaintiff alleged in this action that Rawle & Henderson LLP’s client, Dr. X, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, committed dental malpractice because he failed to detect and diagnose Actinomycosis, a rare bacteria, and failed to send him to the proper specialists to treat same, which caused plaintiff to develop osteomyelitis on the right side of his face and undergo multiple surgical procedures and hospitalizations. Plaintiff also alleged that he did not have informed consent for the procedures performed by Dr. X.
