With great sadness, Rawle & Henderson has said farewell to Keith Mulvihill, a partner in the Firm's Pittsburgh office, who passed away on May 31, 2012. Mr. Mulvihill was a Pittsburgh native who practiced in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania for over 20 years in the areas of product liability, general liability and insurance coverage.
A cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was Managing Editor of the Law Review in 2000, Mr. Mulvihill also obtained the prestigious Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation from the CPCU Society.
Mr. Mulvihill had substantial trial experience in product liability, professional liability and general defense matters. In the product liability area, he defended insured and self-insured manufacturers of a variety of industrial and consumer products including mining equipment, man lifts, road paving and grading equipment, aircraft, pharmaceuticals, consumer appliances and silica containing products. In the insurance coverage area, he represented carriers in a variety of coverage claims and in bad faith and UM/UIM claims.
He wrote extensively and lectured for professional and trade groups on trial practice, professional liability and insurance coverage.
Mr. Mulvihill was active in the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and served as Treasurer. He also served as Chair of PDI's Professional Liability Committee and its Coverage and Claims Practice Committee. He was also active in the CPCU Society (Allegheny Chapter) and was a member of the National Claims Committee.
In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Mulvihill was very involved in his community and had been elected to the Board of Commissioners of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a large Pittsburgh suburb where he had served as Board President. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Medical Rescue Team South Authority which provides emergency medical services to a number of suburban Pittsburgh communities. Mr. Mulvihill was General Counsel for the Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania and had served as a court-appointed Special Master for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
Mr. Mulvihill was rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell and had been named to Who's Who in American Law©; Who's Who in America© and Who's Who in the World©.
