Robert Murdoch specializes in medical malpractice. Mr. Murdoch has been a partner in two major law firms in Pittsburgh in which he handled major defense cases in the specialized fields of product liability, maritime law, railroad and aviation law in addition to medical malpractice. Other types of cases included property insurance defense, subrogation and workmen's compensation.
In addition to numerous jury trials in western Pennsylvania and the Federal Court system Mr. Murdoch has tried cases in New York, Louisville and St. Louis. In 1983 Mr. Murdoch successfully argued a case before the Supreme Court of the United States that involved the discussion of the application of inflation to future lost earnings and alternative measures of damage. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation v. Pfeifer, 462 US 523, 76 L. Ed. 2d 768, 103 S.Ct. 2541 (1983).
His publications include: Pfeifer: The Supreme Court on LHWCA and Inflation, 25 For the Defense 15 (September, 1983); 2 The Economic Expert in Litigation: 1984, 81 (1984).
In his spare time Mr. Murdoch is involved on the boards of two national Scottish organizations and numerous other Scottish groups. He is the Chairman of the Scottish Nationality Room at the University of Pittsburgh which issues a yearly scholarship for a five week study program. In 1999 he was named the first National Chairman for Tartan Day and continues in that role. He is also known as the Tartan Tenor as he performs at Scottish functions.
